Photograph Provided by Jackie Rudnick © 2006
Southwest of Cairo, Nebraska, the Berwick Cemetery property was donated by one of the first settlers of Mayfield Township, Jacob Rickard. The Rickards were from Herkimer County, New York, and settled at Berwick in 1873. Jacob, his wife Mary, and their daughter, Pheobe, were among the first to be buried there. The first burial seems to have been Wiley C. Halstead, who died June 29, 1876.
