Newspapers of old used can be filled with interesting little "tid-bits" or newsy happenings of the a city and its surrounding areas, for those who like visit who, who was ill, who gave a party and those who attended them and so on. Our thanks to the Grand Island Independent for these contributions of adding "tid-bits" in people daily lives.
On July 1, 1870, the first newspaper in the county was established by Seth P. and Mrs. Maggie G. T. Mobley, and known as the Platte Valley Independent. It was removed from North Platte, where it was formerly published. You may find a name or two you're interested in....but if not...this still makes a pleasant break. Most of the tid-bits were found while searching for obituraries and such.
A Special THANKS! to Kaylynn Loveland and others who helped transcribed these "tid-bits" from the Grand Island Independent newspapers.
