Grand Island and vicinity have failed to furnish their quota of men for the regular army and the Nebraska national guard. For this reason, Thursday, June 14, has been set aside for the purpose of aiding the government and the state in securing the full quota of soldiers so greatly needed now. It is the duty of every citizen of this community to assist in this most necessary work. Necessarily, the men to be selected under the conscription law cannot be chosen for some time hence it is necessary that the full strength of the regular army and the full strength of the national guard be enlisted not later than June 18. The following named committee has been appointed to take charge of this work of enlistment on June 14:

Captain Frith and Sergeants Compton and Rogers of the regular army will have charge of the recruiting for the government and Captain Allan and Lieutenants Meyer andSchuff for the national guard. Enlistments are open for all branches of the service. Captain Frith says, "The man who enlists now may select any branch of the service he desires. He will have three months advantage in the matter of promotion and he will be the instructor of the men who come in under the draft later; he will stand that much better chance for a commission. The man who enlists now gets $30 a month from the start, twice what he formerly received. Theenlistment is only for the present war." The people of Grand Island and this community are taking hold of this matter in ernest. They do not want it said in the future that this part of the state did not do its duty when the government called. They are determined to show that we are just as patriotic as other parts of the state or other parts of the country. In other words, the citizenship here are not slackers. A complete program for the day will be publishedlater.
