Soldiers' and Sailors' Home - Burkette Station - Grand Island, Nebraska, ca. 1900

1887 to Present

This is a photo of the "Soldiers and Sailors Home" in Grand Island. This scene is looking to the northwest and shows the original building. Construction for this building was started in 1887. The building to the left, with the pointed turrit, was added about 1899 - 1900, for use as the officers quarters. The main building was demolished in the 1950's when the "new" administration building was built. The officers quarters remained.
